About Interceptor

Turn a compute module into a NAS or NVR. The Interceptor Carrier Board takes a Raspberry Pi CM4, a Raspberry Pi CM5 or a Banana Pi CM4, so you can start on a CM4 and move to a CM5 on the same board later.

You get five SATA III ports with hot-plug and software RAID 0, 1, 5, 6 and 10 (mdadm), a 4-port Gigabit managed switch, dual 4K HDMI and standard 24-pin ATX power. Add one or two Interceptor PoE Boards for up to 16 PoE+ ports (10/100 Mbps).

With a CM4 or CM5, start from Raspberry Pi OS, Debian 12 Bookworm or 13 Trixie, or Ubuntu 25.10 or 26.04 LTS and add the Exaviz packages from apt.exaviz.com for the switch, PoE and network setup. See the Interceptor software guide. The Banana Pi CM4, with its 5 TOPS NPU for AI on the module, runs its own Exaviz OS image and drives one HDMI output; that image is still available but no longer being developed.

With a CM5: the board's USB ports are USB 2.0, and a CM5 boots from USB 3.0 only. A CM5 whose eMMC has never been written boots from the microSD slot. To use a CM5 with an initialized eMMC, flash it on a Raspberry Pi IO Board first. The front power button works with a Raspberry Pi CM4. The FAQ has the details.

What you can build with it

A camera recorder with no vendor cloud

Run the recorder on your own board. Video, storage and switching stay on your network, with no Exaviz account and no Exaviz cloud.

  • Up to 16 PoE+ ports (10/100) with one or two Interceptor PoE Boards
  • Five SATA III ports with software RAID 0, 1, 5, 6 or 10 for recordings
  • Run the VMS you choose.

A NAS that also powers your PoE devices

Five SATA ports and a Gigabit switch on one board, plus PoE+ for cameras, access points or sensors when you add one or two Interceptor PoE Boards.

  • Five SATA III ports with hot-plug
  • 4-port Gigabit managed switch on the board
  • One 48Vdc Power Converter supplies 240W: 8 ports at 30W or 16 at 15W

Exaviz Management (coming soon)

Building a homelab NAS or NVR? Exaviz Management is coming soon, free with Interceptor. You'll be able to turn PoE ports on and off, group ports, pair boards into one fleet view and see how full storage is, with config drift alerts and an audit log of changes. It will run on your local network over HTTPS with no account and no cloud. Running Home Assistant or your own recorder? Keep it. Exaviz Management will manage the board, not your video: it won't record, store or stream video.

Exaviz Management won't collect any information about you or your network.

Coming soon. Want to hear when it's ready? Sign up for announcements.

Works with Home Assistant

Add the Interceptor PoE Board and our free, open-source Home Assistant plugin puts every PoE port in Home Assistant, ready for your dashboard, up to 16 ports with two PoE Boards. See live power draw per port, which ports have a device plugged in and powered, and the MAC address of what is connected, plus its maker when available. Switch ports on or off, or power-cycle a stuck camera or access point with one tap, and track processor temperature and total power draw next to the rest of your smart home. Install it from HACS (search for Exaviz) with Home Assistant running on the Interceptor itself. It needs the free Exaviz software packages on the board, then detects the Interceptor, its PoE Boards and their ports automatically, with no hardware settings to enter.
